Wendi L. Dumbroff, MA, LPC, was a guest on the public affairs television show ‘Morning Coffee.’ During the segment, Dumbroff discussed the use of mindfulness as a powerful tool to diffuse tensions that might erupt during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dumbroff addressed some of the common problems that have arisen during this extended COVID-19 quarantine with family, friends or even if one is alone. Her solutions ranged from bringing awareness into how one communicates difficult feelings to how to act appropriately in a charged environment. Dumbroff encouraged the use of taking a break by saying:
“Maybe I need to step aside or go outside… but I don’t want to do what I usually do so I’m going to step away. When we are aware of how we feel, we may not like it, we may not choose it, but it’s what’s there.” This knowledge guides our response to any situation.
Dumbroff emphasized that it is normal to feel different emotions but what matters is how we cope with this information in our daily lives.
