Wendi L. Dumbroff discussed a wide range of topics from sex therapy to handling shame

Wendi L. Dumbroff, MA, LPC was recently a guest on “The Intimacy Inquiry”, hosted by Andrew Phipps.
In a wide-ranging conversation, Wendi explored the impact of shame on intimacy in relationships as well as misconceptions on what sex therapy is.
“Sex therapy is talk therapy just like any other therapy. I may give people exercises to do at home and we can come talk about it afterwards but it’s not happening in my office. So there’s a strong boundary there.”
Wendi highlighted the importance of addressing shame during intercourse.
“One of the key things I do with couples is a sexual history. I then look for any areas where people felt shamed or developed any kind of shame around sex or their sexuality or what they liked or what they thought was okay.”
Wendi also spoke on open conversations about desires and fantasies in relationships. She touched on the growing interest in non-monogamy and the unique challenges it presents.
